Osteitis pubis (OP) –
inflammation of the pubic joint
A typical athlete’s problem: chronic and reoccurring pain of the groin region
The differential diagnosis of groin pain is a common problem that orthopedists, surgeons and general practitioners are often confronted with.
Apart from acute groin pain, often caused by a specific incident, athletes often experience chronic, reoccurring or persistent pain in the groin region. According to publications, the number of affected athletes varies between 10-18%. The patients’ discomfort is often ascribed to an inflammation of the pubic joint, osteitis pubis (OP).
